في قضية هزّت الرأي العام في إقليم كردستان، عاقبت محكمة الجنايات في أربيل الطبيب سيروان محمود، بحكم نهائي يقضي بإعدامه بعد إدانته بارتكاب جريمة مروّعة قبل تسعة أشهر راح ضحيتها زوجته وثلاثة من أفراد عائلتها.
جاء القرار بعد سلسلة جلسات مطوّلة نظرت خلالها المحكمة في وقائع الجريمة وأدلتها، وقضت بإعدام المدان عن جريمة قتل والدَي زوجته، إضافة إلى السجن المؤبد مرتين لمدة 40 عاماً عن جريمة قتل زوجته وشقيقتها باستخدام سلاح ناري، وفق ما نقلته وسائل إعلام محلية.
وتعود أحداث القضية إلى مارس الماضي، حين توجه الطبيب المدان إلى منزل عائلة زوجته في حي فرمان بران بأربيل، وأطلق النار عليهم داخل المنزل، ما أدى إلى مقتل زوجته -وهي طبيبة أيضاً- وشقيقتها ووالديها، في جريمة هزت المجتمع العراقي وأثارت موجة واسعة من الغضب.
عقب ارتكاب الجريمة، تمكنت القوات الأمنية من ضبط الجاني، الذي اعترف بإطلاق النار، بينما أشارت مصادر أمنية حينها إلى وجود خلافات عائلية معقدة كانت وراء الجريمة، بينها ارتباط الطبيب بزواج سري شكل شرارة تفجير الأزمة داخل الأسرة.
تأتي هذه الجريمة ضمن سلسلة حالات عنف أسري شهدتها البلاد خلال الأعوام الأخيرة، في ظل غياب إحصاءات رسمية دقيقة حول أعداد جرائم القتل في العراق، بينما تكشف وسائل التواصل والصحف المحلية عن وقائع مشابهة تظهر بين حين وآخر في محافظات مختلفة.
In a case that shook public opinion in the Kurdistan region, the Erbil Criminal Court sentenced doctor Sirwan Mahmoud to death in a final ruling after he was convicted of committing a horrific crime nine months ago that resulted in the deaths of his wife and three of her family members.
The decision came after a series of lengthy sessions during which the court examined the facts of the crime and the evidence, sentencing the convict to death for the murder of his wife’s parents, in addition to two life sentences of 40 years each for the murder of his wife and her sister using a firearm, according to local media reports.
The events of the case date back to last March, when the convicted doctor went to his wife’s family home in the Farman Bran neighborhood of Erbil and opened fire on them inside the house, resulting in the deaths of his wife—who was also a doctor—her sister, and her parents, in a crime that shocked Iraqi society and sparked widespread outrage.
Following the crime, security forces were able to apprehend the perpetrator, who confessed to the shooting, while security sources at the time indicated that there were complex family disputes behind the crime, including the doctor’s involvement in a secret marriage that ignited the crisis within the family.
This crime is part of a series of domestic violence cases that have occurred in the country in recent years, amid a lack of accurate official statistics on the number of murders in Iraq, while social media and local newspapers reveal similar incidents that occasionally surface in various provinces.
